Intel Curie Based Technology

Intel Curie is a system on chip based on the Intel Quark SE. This SoC has the size of the shirt button and gives the required power essential for the wearable devices. Through the introduction of Intel Curie, many new smart products can be made available in market.

The Intel Curie consists of a Quark SoC, Flash memory of 384Kb and SRAM of 80Kb. It is introduced as a package with an accelerometer, gyroscope sensor which helps in gesture recognition and movement tracking. This module consists of a digital sensor hub with battery charging circuits and movement tracking. For communication purpose it uses a Bluetooth.

Programming

Arduino board is programmed using Arduino Software. Select the board from Tools menu. Choose the option Board.  Board comes with the preprogrammed RTOS which handles the USB connection. Communication is carried out using protocol- DFU.

Unique Feature

It includes a on-board BLE, Intel microcontroller which is of low power, motion sensors make it unique.

Power Requirements

Arduino 101 board is powered by the help of the USB and also using an external power supply.  We can give the external power using a AC-DC adapter or a battery.

Power supply pins are given below as:

  • VIN:  Power is given with the help of the pin.
  • IOREF. Provides voltage reference for the microcontroller to operate.
  • 5V: Provides a 5V regulated output
  • 3.3V: On-board regulator generates the 3.3 volt supply.
  • GND. Ground pin.

Output and Input Pins

Serial: Helps in the reception and transmission of serial data.

An external interrupt is given to the pins.

  • SPI, MOSI, SS, SCK, MISO. Supports SPI communication.
  • LED: 13. There is a built-in LED driven by pin number 13.  LED is ON as the pin 13 is HIGH and LED is OFF as the pin 13is OFF.
  • Analog Inputs: Analog input is given to the 6 inputs among the 20 I/O pins. A0 to A5 represent the pins. Helps in measuring from GND to 3.3 volt supply.
  • SCL and SDA pin helps in the support of TWI communication.
